Navigon 2100 max Professional Reviews:
PCmag has reviewed the Navigon 2100 max and given out” Bottom Line: Navigon’s 2100 max entry-level widescreen GPS unit proves that you get what you pay for. While the device does come equipped with some of the same fancy features offered by its higher-end sibling, its effectiveness is hindered by a small POI database and annoyingly long route-calculation times. Pros:4.3-inch widescreen display. Built-in traffic receiver. Text-to-speech conversion. Multi-segment routing. Helpful Reality View and Lane Assistant features. Optional FreshMaps update service. Cons:Slow route calculation. Small POI database. Speed and trip data displayed in small fonts.”
PCworld has reviewed the Navigon 2100 max and given out”The Navigon 2100 Max sits in the middle ground of GPS devices: It includes all of the basics, and it lets you add desired extras for a fee. Even with the extras, however, it omits some features–such as Bluetooth connectivity and FM transmission–that more-expensive units offer. It’s not as cheap as some entry-level devices, and it can be confusing to use, but the 2100 Max will lead you to your destination-with the help of some nifty navigation aides. Just don’t get distracted by the eye-catching visual presentation.”
Cnet has reviewed the Navigon 2100 max and given out”The good: The Navigon 2100 Max features a larger 4.3-inch touch screen and adds lane assistance and safety tools. The portable navigation device also offers text-to-speech functionality.
The bad: The Navigon 2100 Max’s user interface isn’t as intuitive as the competition. General performance can be sluggish at times.
The bottom line: The new Navigon 2100 Max features some nice additions, including a larger screen and advanced lane guidance, but the portable navigation device is still tripped up by sluggish performance.”
Digital Trends has reviewed the Navigon 2100 max and given out”The Navigon 2100 Max is a solid, well-performing GPS that’s easy to recommend. At about $260 USD street price (as of April 2008), it proves well worth the investment for features such as the terrific Reality View option. By comparison, the new Garmin nuvi 205W with a similar 4.3-inch screen is due soon for $266 USD and lacks this feature, not to mention spoken turn commands. Since both use NAVTEQ maps, there really isn’t that much difference in terms of day-to-day performance as well. Navigon also has traffic alerts for $99 lifetime versus MSN Direct at $129 lifetime (or $49.95 annually) on the Garmin. However, MSN Direct gives more info such as movie times and stock quotes, so this is pretty much a wash. All told though, the Navigon 2100 Max takes the prize.”

This is one great unit. I didn’t want to wait until the sales when it would be out of stock, so I got one with traffic (2100T max) as a deal for the list price. This was similar to the 2100T deal offered on rare occasions. It is quicker than the original 2100 with some new great features. Test it out in the stores to make sure it’s what you are looking for. I don’t need Bluetooth or an MP3 player, so I am very happy. I’ve had it for almost a month now.
I bought the Navigon 2100 max because of some good reviews on amazon.com and it’s slim shape appearance for [snip, see comment policy].
I received the unit yesterday and as I started using the unit, I noticed that it wasn’t holding up to the positive reviews it claimed on amazon.com
The unit is very slow in receiving satellite signal after it turns on. And when it does receive satellite signal, it does not take long before it loses again.
My first time using the 2100 max unit was from my home to work, a 16 mile one way. And the whole time, I had no satellite signal what so ever.
I decided to do a factory setting today again and did not see any changes, still running super slow in response time. Sometimes it takes anywhere from 10-15 minutes to find a satellite signal.
Another thing I noticed is when viewing the current map, the POIs are showing up on the wrong side of the street and the unit is still moving even when I have already come to a complete stop or parked.
This is my very first Navigation unit, so I’m very new to the navigation technology, but comparing this unit to other brands that some of my friends have, this unit is a pieace of trash.
Very disappointed for making the decision to puchase the Navigon 2100 max and will be returning or selling the darn unit and look for something better even if I have to pay a little more.
