After reading review after glowing review of the Garmin Nuvi’s I went to check one out at my local Best Buy. I was all set to get my very own uber-fancy Nuvi with Bluetooth when I saw the Harman Kardon GPS. I got to playing around with it and found that it has all of the same features I was looking for in the Nuvi, but (IMHO) it’s much better looking inside and out. The graphics are great looking (especially the night colors), the maps are impressively detailed, and it is really easy to get around the software.I was very hesitant to buy a product from a company that (to my knowledge) just makes amps, but I was intrigued by the remote control. I figured I could always return it if it was junk. So this is what got me to post a review… I’m totally blown away by how cool the remote control is and how well it works with this GPS.
Unfortunately Amazon isn’t showing it here but the GPS comes with this neat little wireless knob that sticks to the center console in your car. You can use it to do everything the touch screen does but it is much, *much* easier to use while driving.
Try entering an address using a touch screen while you’re on the road and you immediately know how dangerous it is. With this remote it is easy to enter addresses into the GPS and makes the GPS feel like a part of my car’s built in controls.
I`ve only had my Guide and Play for two days now and I’m *very* happy with it. This is just my initial review, I plan to post more later.

I bought this unit but returned it because, for me, the cons (most significantly the battery life) outweighed the pros. Here is a rundown of what I found:Pros:
- solid build - you can feel the quality when you hold this device
- generally good performance, rapid satellite lock and route calculation
- excellent car mounting accessories
- beautiful large screen with video playback as well as audio
- control knob is innovative and convenient
- menus are intuitive and easy to follow
Cons:
- 2 hour battery life (confirmed to be “normal” by HK tech) - this is fine if you don’t plan to use video feature and instead intend to leave it mounted in the same vehicle all the time
- suspend feature described in quick start guide missing on some units pending firmwire update expected in the next couple of months - so the unit reboots completely every time you turn it off
- recalculation routing sometimes erratic (lots of U-turns!)
- full user manual not available and no time-frame within which it will be released - a complex, feature-rich device such as this deserves better
Bottom line: a good product, but needs some refining before it can justify the price tag.
