Magellan Maestro 4050 Review
The good: The Magellan Maestro series of in-car GPS devices features an updated and sleeker design and interface with a spacious 4.3-inch touch screen. All models offer useful information on points of interest from the American Automobile Association. In addition, the Maestro 4040 has integrated Bluetooth and text-to-speech functionality, while the Maestro 4050 adds real-time traffic alerts and voice commands.

cnet Reviewed the Magellan Maestro 4050 and gave out”The Magellan Maestro 4040 is probably the best-looking portable navigation system we’ve seen from the company to date. Unlike the somewhat bulky and uninspiring Magellan RoadMate 2200T, the Maestro 4040 sports a classic black-and-silver color scheme and a more refined and streamlined design…”

Magellan Maestro 4050 Review
Magellan’s top-of-the-line GPS, the widescreen Maestro 4050, adds voice recognition and live traffic reports to the already solid Maestro 4040. But you can’t control the device’s every action with vocal commands alone, and its Bluetooth-connection skills need work.

pcmag Reviewed the Magellan Maestro 4050 and gave out”The Maestro 4050’s mounting bracket integrates the traffic receiver and antenna. You can connect the power cable (which plugs into your car’s lighter jack), external audio, a microphone, and an external antenna to the mounting bracket…”

Navigon N100 Pocket LOOX Review
Lighter than a Motorola Razr phone, and only slighter larger in size, the Navigon N100 looks like an interesting product for pedestrian usage, or for those who want to bring a portable GPS on business trips. The N100 includes a built-in stylus pen (although you can also just use your finger), and the display can be switched between landscape and portrait views. NAVTEQ maps and SiRF’s high performance GPS receiver in an ultra-small form factor could end up being an awesome GPS unit indeed — the screenshots I saw in the booth look promising.

Available by summer ‘07, the 9611 will retail for $899, and will include all the same features found on the less expensive N100 but will add Bluetooth, a larger screen, subscription-free traffic data from Clear Channel (free lifetime real-time traffic updates), pre-loaded Zagat guide data for North America for hotel, restaurant, nightlife, attractions, and gold courses. The 9611 runs Navigon’s Mobile Navigator Premium software.”

TomTom GO 720 Review
The TomTom GO 720 looks good, and its widescreen is beautiful. There are some fun features that I look forward to exploring like the voice recording capability that will allow me to put familiar voices and new messages into the GO 720 that will play as part of the navigation. The battery life is longer than the TomTom ONE XL, coming in at about 5 hours. The GO 720 will support TMC capability and the antenna will cost a little over $100, which will come with a 1 year subscription.

gpslodge Reviewed the TomTom GO 720 and gave out”The TomTom GO 720 also allows the user to quickly identify their location for emergency assistance providers. Magellan is exploring a similar vector with select Magellan Maestro series that has similar capability that is tied into their integration with AAA driving club.”
